The control board is the circuit board inside your furnace or air handler that runs the show: it receives the thermostat's requests and decides what actually happens — when the blower starts and at what speed, when the outdoor unit gets its signal, and whether every safety device agrees it's safe to run. When a board fails, the symptoms can look like anything: a dead system, a blower that never stops, cooling that works 'sometimes.' What it does, in plain English

Every call for cooling is really a chain of decisions, and the board makes all of them.
